Obituary of Strother Wise

Mason City Globe Gazette on October 16, 1971

Strother Wise, 77, 524 14th St. SE, retired area farmer, died Friday at a Mason City nursing home. Funeral services will be at 1:30pm Monday at the Wesley Methodist Church.

He was born April 11, 1894 in Richmond, KY, the son of Green and Sarah (McSwain) Wise. He had lived in the area 21 years and was a member of Wesley Methodist Church.

He married Sarah F. Hill, March 10, 1917, in Bloomington, IL.

Mr. Wise is survived by his wife; two sons, G.B., Shreveport, LA, and Strother (Bud) Las Vegas, NV, six daughters, Mrs. Fred (Mary) Jones, Mrs. Richard (Lucille) Estal, Iva Flynn all of Mason City, IA; Mrs. Oscar (Helen) Ayres, Burlington, IA, Mrs. Ralph (Bonnie) Lease, Iowa Falls, IA, and Mrs. Tad (Sarah) Price, Des Moines. 30 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; one brother Herman Wise, Corwith, IA, two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Dammerell, Chicago, IL, and Mrs. Nell Opheim, Sexton.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, three brothers and five sisters.

The Rev. Dr. Howard Palmer, pastor of Wesley Church and Mr. Loren Steven, nephew of Mr. Wise and pastor of West Side Baptist Church, Excelisor, MN, will officiate. Soloist will be Mrs. James Dee, and organist Mrs. John Tidball.

Pallbearers will be Roland, Walter and Steven Jones, GB Wise Jr, Michael Lease and Lloyd Wise. Flowers will be handled by Mrs. Carl Cox and Mrs. Raymond Anderson.

Burial will be in the Buffalo Township Cemetery, Titonka, IA.

Friends may call at the Patterson-James Funeral Home after 7:00pm, Saturday to 11:30am Monday and prior to the service at the church.
