Funeral services for Floyd W. Shunkwiler, 71, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the McAuley-Scanlan Funeral Home. Capt. Robert Stigleman of the Salvation Army will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Mr. Shunkwiler died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was a former employee of both Jacob E. Decker and Sons and, more recently, of the Mason City Brick and Tile Co.

He was born Aug. 18, 1888, in Wright County, the son of Barnabus and Elizabeth Shunkwiler. He attended schools in Wright County and farmed south of Rowan. Sept. 2, 1918, he was married to Verna E. DeMaris. They made their home in Galt where he operated a meat market.

In 1920 they moved to Park Rapids, Minn., where he was a steam engineer in the lumber industry. In 1926 they moved to Mason City and he worked at Deckers until 1942 when they returned to Minnesota. They returned to Mason City in 1947 and he worked at the Brick and Tile plant as a transferman until his retirement in September 1956.

He was a member of the United Glass and Ceramic Workers of North America Local 105.

He is survived by his wife, three sons, Keith C. Shunkwiler, Mason City; GM I.C. Lyle E. Shunkwiler, Norfolk, Va., and Donald Shunkwiler, two other sons and two daughters by a previous marriage and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sons and two sisters.

Friends may call at the McAuley-Scanlan Funeral Home after noon Thursday.
