Funeral services for Edward Lee Ohrt, 65, former Cedar county resident, were held at First Presbyterian church, Sanborn, May 6 with the Rev William Haak officiating. Burial was in Roseland cemetery, Sanborn. Pallbearers were Ronald, Scott, Daniel and Ramo Ohrt, Peter and Paul Haag, Bruce Menster and Jerry Buren. Honorary bearers were Doug Rusbam, Tommy Hadden, John Knock, John McCarty, LeRoy Venega and Wilbur Smith.
Mr. Ohrt died at Veterans Administration hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D. May 3.
The son of Gustave and Emma Schroeder Ohrt, he was born in Cedar county, Dec. 18, 1922. He spent his youth in Cedar and Jones counties and was married to Florence Peden at Tipton Jan. 10, 1942. They lived at Mechanicsville, Springdale, West Branch and Monticello before moving to Sanborn 6 years ago. While living in Sanborn they had operated the Bowl-Mor Lanes and cafe. He was a member of First Presbyterian church, Sanborn.
Mr. Ohrt was a Marine veteran of World War II. He entered service March 29, 1943 and was discharged Dec. 11, 1945 as a sergeant. An amphibious tractor crewman, he took part in the Iwo Jima and Volcano Island campaigns in the Pacific Theater of Operations.
He is survived by his wife; 2 sons, Carl, Cedar Rapids and Mearl, Sanborn; 2 daughters, Mrs. Robert (Rebecca) Menster, Monticello and Mrs. Michael (Penny) Haag, Sanborn; 11 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Richard, Tipton and Donald, West Branch and 5 sisters, Mrs. William (Edna) Young, Lisbon; Mrs. Richard (Velma) Musile, Cambridge, Neb.; Mrs. Harry (Wiona) Lange, Boulder City, Mo.; Mrs. Everett (June) Kabrick, Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Richard (Paula) Hubler, Tipton. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 5 sisters.
