OBITUARY
KELLYThe entire community was greatly shocked last Thursday morning when it became known that Bert Kelly had been so seriously Injured in the accident which had befallen him. Then, for a time as medical skill battled for his life, the hope was universal that bis naturally rugged constitution would survive the great shock to which it had been subjected. But.,on Friday evening, hope was turned to deep sorrow when announcement was made that he had peacefully entered into rest..
Albert E. Kelly, the son of Robert and Kathryn Kelly, Clinton county pioneers, was born near Elvira, Iowa, Sept. 1, 1871. His earthly life terminated at his home in Clarence Dec. 3, 1926, consequently he lived 55 years, three months and two days..
He grew to manhood,in Clinton county and on March 15, 1893, was united in marriage with Miss Kathryn Mahn of Elvira and they established a home on a farm in that vicinity, and here three sons, Robert G., Glenn L. and Lester D. were born to them..
In March, 1903, the family moved to the farm north of Clarence and there resided until the year 1915 when he turned the active work of the farm to bis sons and moved into Clarence. This did not mean retirement for him for he was a man of great energy and activity and his brain and hands were even busy at something either for himself or in some act of kindness and helpfulness to others. He was ever ready to render efficient service in any way to those in need and, when about two years ago he suffered the calamity of the loss of his sight, his greatest cross was that he could no longer minister to others but that he himself must be ministered unto..
He was straight forward and honest in all his dealings with mankind his nature was a generous one, his disposition was always genial, his life radiated happiness and good cheer and his friendships were almost numberless..
Shortly after coming to Clarence, he united with the Presbyterian church by letter under the pastorate of Rev. D. M. Ogilvie and was chairman of its official board at the time of his decease..
He is survived by his wife and the three sons mentioned together with their families consisting of their wives and five granddaughters. Also by four brothers and their families, David E., Samuel R., R. Bruce and Lee C. Kelly all of Clinton, Iowa, a large number of other relatives and an innumerable host of friends..
The funeral services were held Monday afternoon. Rev. Karl Fauth, pastor of the Evangelical church, offered prayer at the home. This was followed by services at the Presbyterian church whose capacity was greatly over taxed by the throng of friends who came to testify to their love and regard for the deceased. Around the casket were banked great numbers of floral tributes from friends both far and near. The male quartet sang two of Mr. Kelly’s favorite hymns, “The Church in the Wildwood” and “Abide With Me,” and Darrol Mack sang “Face to Face.” Rev. E. Winslow Brown, pastor of the Mechanicsville Presbyterian church and a warm friend of the deceased, delivered a very comforting discourse entitled “My Father’s House” and Dwight J. Krumboltz, pastor of the Clarence Presbyterian church, delivered a beautiful eulogy of the generous soul that had but preceded into the Land of Eternal Peace..
Following these services, interment was made in the Clarence cemetery.
