Memorial services for Mrs. Raymond (Alice) Maurer, 84, were held at United Church of Christ Oct. 13 with Dr. Jerrold Swinton officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery. Betty Trevathan was organist. Her body was cremated.

Mrs. Maurer died at St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids, Oct. 7.

The daughter of Edward and Myrtle Challis Hobstetter, she was born at Tipton Feb. 5, 1903. She graduated from Tipton high school in 1920. She began her teaching career at Cass No. 4 in 1923. From 1923 to 1927 she taught in the Tipton elementary school. She was married to Raymond R. Maurer in Tipton June 12, 1928. He died in 1970.

She attended Iowa State Teachers College from 1920 to 1923 and later at ISTC and the University of Iowa, receiving her BA degree from Iowa in 1962.

Mrs. Maurer taught in the Center No. 3 and other schools from 1934 to 1950 when she returned to teaching in Tipton. She taught in the elementary school, 6th grade, until she retired in 1970.

A lifetime resident of Tipton, she was a member of United Church of Christ and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by a son, Charles, Gold Hill, Ore. and 2 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and 4 sisters.
