Funeral services for Ferris G. Hanks, 71, Blue Springs, Mo., were held July 20, 1987 at Sheets and Son Funeral Home in Tipton, with the Rev. Susan Detwiler officiating. Nancy Hipple was the vocalist and Betty Trevathan was the organist. Pallbearers were Larry Hansen, Dennis Hansen, Wayne Brown, John Falkers, John Tholen and Robert Schroeder. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.
Mr. Hanks died July 16 at the Clarence Nursing Home, following an extended illness.
The son of Carl F. and Susan Murray Hanks, he was born Dec. 7, 1915 near Tipton. He attended the rural Cedar county schools and Tipton community school. He married Ruth Sander in 1939 in Muscatine and she preceded him in death. He married Ava Silvara in 1980 in Blue Springs, Mo.
Mr. Hanks was a retired farmer and a former resident of the Muscatine, West Liberty and Clarence areas. He had resided in Blue Springs, Mo. for the past 7 years. He was a member of the Blue Springs Baptist church.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Russell (Marjorie) Gray, Geneseo, Ill.; 4 sons, Ferris Lynn, Mechanicsville; Larry, Hills; Harlan, Rochester and William, Tennessee; 2 stepdaughters, Carol Grossnickle, Blue Springs, Mo. and Linda Record, Manchester, Md.; 12 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Doran (Florence) Alrich, Bloomburg, Pa. and 3 brothers, C. L. "Jack" Hanks, Stanwood; Chester Hanks, Tipton and Donald Hanks, Lone Tree. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, a sister and a grandson.
