Funeral services for L. P. "Pat" Foster Jr. 68, Iowa City, were held Aug. 8, 1987 at the United Methodist church in West Branch, with the Rev. Samuel J. Hahn officiating. Burial was in the West Branch cemetery.

Mr. Foster died Aug. 5 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City following a short illness.

The son of L. P. Sr. and Mary Thomason Foster, he was born Feb. 3, 1921 in Cedar county. He was a 40 year auctioneer in eastern Iowa, a city council member in 1976 in Iowa City and an Air Force veteran of World War II.

Mr. Foster was a member of the United Methodist church in West Branch, the National and State Auctioneer Association, where he was a former president of the State Assocation, a director of the National Auctioneers Association, a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Presidents Club at the University of Iowa Alumni Foundation and the National and Johnson County I Clubs.

The Cedar county native became a well-known auctioneer in eastern Iowa after World War II, while working with livestock in West Branch. He also worked for the old Wilson and Co. meatpackers in Cedar Rapids and the Clark Cattle Co. of Sioux City.

Mr. Foster is survived by his parents of West Branch; a son, Charles, Nichols; a daughter, Mardi Foster, Ratausk Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; a brother, Derrold "Pat" Foster, Iowa City and 3 sisters, Doris Jean Hagen, San Antonio, Texas; Mary Janet Turnbull, Des Moines and Audrey Rex, West Branch.
