Funeral services for Robert Witmer, 79, Wilton, were held July 13, 1987 at the Wilton United Methodist church with the Rev. Paul Pennington officiating. Eva Lu Morrison was the organist and pallbearers were Walter Luethy, Pete Ericksen, Merrill Knouse, Minard Thomas, Don Hansen and Grant McConnaha. Honorary pallbearers were Melvin Fick, Robert Statler and Willard Smull. Burial was in Oakdale cemetery.

Mr. Witmer died July 9 at his home in Wilton.

The son of Richard and Margaret Altenbernd Witmer, he was born Aug. 31, 1907 in Cedar county. He married Viola Stratton May 29, 1935 in West Branch. He was a member of the Golden Rule Masonic Lodge No. 24 in Rochester and the Wilton United Methodist church.

Mr. Witmer had farmed in Cedar county and later became the owner-operator of the Quality Hardware store in Wilton, retiring in 1973.

He is survived by his wife; 2 daughters, Mrs. Ken (Shirley) Meisinger, Wilton and Mrs. Jerry (Phyllis) Amerine, Muscatine; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and a brother, H. Leroy Witmer, Tipton.
