Funeral services for Walter W. Achenbach, 83, Stanwood, were held June 22, 1987 at Sheets and Son Funeral Home in Tipton, with the Rev. Susan Detwiler officiating. Diane Moon was the vocalist and Betty Trevathan was the organist. Pallbearers were Wilson Howe, Robert Broulik, Keith Howard, John P. Jones, John St. John and Clifford Wenndt. Burial was in the Stanwood cemetery.

Mr. Achenbach died June 20 at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton following an extended illness.

The son of Alexander and Mary Schutt Achenbach, he was born April 20, 1904 in Cedar Bluff. He attended the rural Cedar and Johnson county schools. He married Wilda Shutt Jan. 10, 1939 in Cedar Rapids.

Mr. Achenbach was a retired farmer and a former resident of the Cedar Bluff and Mt. Vernon areas. He had resided in Stanwood since 1975. He was a member of the Cedar and Linn County Farm Bureau organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Wilda, Stanwood; 2 daughters, Mrs. Lester (Carol) Powell, Cascade and Mrs. Roger (Mary) Hall, Vashon, Wash.; 3 sons, Robert, Johnson Creek, Wis.; Curtis, Corpus Christi, Texas and Eugene, Marion; 13 grandchildren and 4 sisters, Mrs. Russell, (Nola) Howard, Cedar Bluff; Mrs. Harry (Velma) Hegarty, Stanwood; Mrs. Mildred Dice, Tipton and Mrs. Roger (Clara) Messner, West Liberty.

He was preceded in death by a sister and 2 brothers.
