Funeral services for Catherine Phelps, 73, Inglewood, Calif. and formerly of Tipton, were held June 16, 1987 at the Rochester cemetery, with Dr. Jerrold Swinton officiating. Burial was in the Rochester cemetery.

Mrs. Phelps died June 10 at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Calif. following a brief illness.

The daughter of R. B. and Myrtle Horn Howe, she was born Aug. 30, 1913 in Tipton. She graduated from Tipton high school in 1931. She married John W. Phelps May 18, 1934 in Tipton.

Mrs. Phelps was a former school teacher and a homemaker. She was a former resident of Tipton and North Liberty, and had resided in California for the past 9 months.

She is survived by her husband, John; Inglewood, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Carla) McGrath, Los Angeles, Calif.; 3 sons, John, Inglewood, Calif.; Edwin (Mike), Madison, Wis. and Stephen (Pat), Houston, Texas; 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; 6 sisters, Mrs. Delight Sterner, Mrs. Mabel Elsome, Mrs. Mildred (Casey) Swider and Mrs. Carol Kohl, all of Tipton; Martha Howe, Lincoln City, Ore. and Mrs. Paul (Marion) Coolbaugh, Wilton; 3 brothers, Earl Howe and Marlin (Patches) Howe, Tipton and Clarence (Shay) Howe, El Cajon, Claif.; and several nieces and nephews.
