Funeral services for Libby Lorence, 89, Tipton, were held June 1 at St. Mary's Catholic church, Tipton, with the Rev. Joseph P. Hines officiating. Marilyn Davis was the vocalist and Mary Wethington was the organist. Pallbearers were Dan Shima, Larry Ogden, Melvin Holubar, John Tholen, Harold Tucker and Bernard Shima. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery.

Mrs. Lorence died May 28 at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton following an extended illness.

The daughter of Frank and Emma Kunel Shima, she was born Feb. 26, 1898 in Solon. She attended the rural Johnson county schools. She married William Lorence in 1918 in Solon. They owned and operated restaurants in Mt. Pleasant and Tipton for 35 years.

Mrs. Lorence lived in Mt. Pleasant for 30 years and had been a resident of Tipton in 1968. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church.

She is survived by a son, Leo Lorence, Davenport; 2 sisters, Mayme Holubar, Solon and Emily Howe, Tipton; 2 brothers, Frank Shima, Tipton and Joe Shima, Chandler, Ariz.; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lorence was preceded in death by her husband, a sister and 2 brothers.
