Funeral services for William H. Phelps, 53, Iowa City, were held June 1, 1987 at Lacock Funeral Home in Wilton with the Rev. Paul Pennington officiating. Pallbearers were John Hicks, Joe Jones, Danny Walls, Ray Eserhaut, Wayne Ford, Mike Greene and Leo Cromer. Burial was in the Springdale cemetery in rural West Branch.

Mr. Phelps died May 28 at University hospitals in Iowa City.

The son of Gilbert and Jessie Cromwell Phelps, he was born Nov. 17, 1933 in Cedar county. He married Rosa Lea Salylars in Tipton July 29, 1954. He was a maintenance worker for McCrea Water Tower Maintenance of Texas.

Mr. Phelps is survived by a son, Gilbert, Iowa City; 2 daughters, Mrs. John (Deborah) Burris and Dixie Phelps, both of Davenport; 4 grandchildren; a brother, Keith, Iowa City and a sister, Mrs. Lyle (Geraldine) Barkalow, Atalissa. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters.
