Funeral services for Ralph E. Marquis, 93, formerly of Tipton, were held at the Sheets and Son Funeral Home April 29 with the Rev. John Morrison officiating. Burial was in Inland cemetery.

Mr. Marquis, who served as street commissioner and day marshal in Tipton before moving to Iowa City in the early 1950's, died at the Americana Health Care in Davenport April 26.

The son of John W. and Ida Frances Stevens Marquis, he was born in Dunlap Nov. 16, 1891. He served in the navy during World War I, from Dec. 15, 1917 to Oct. 2, 1919. He was married to Mildred Willcutt in Tipton Nov. 28, 1923.

He farmed before working for the city of Tipton. After leaving Tipton he worked for the Veterans Administration Medical center in Iowa City for 11 years.

He was a member of St. Mark's Methodist church, Iowa City; the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the Odd Fellows lodge and was a 50-year plus member of the Garey-Whalen post of the American Legion in Tipton.

He is survived by a daughter, Jeanne Simmons, Dayton, Ohio; a son, Kenneth, Davenport; 4 grandchildren, a great-grandchild and a sister, Alice Bates, Cambridge, Ohio. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers.
