Funeral services for Scott Hamilton Dykes, 19, Tipton high school graduate, were held in Centerville April 11 with the Rev. Judy Kitterman, Grace United Methodist church, Moravia, officiating. Burial was in Hanes cemetery, Centerville.

The death of Dykes, a Kirkwood Community college student, was ruled a suicide by Dr. Percy Harris, Linn county medical examiner.

Employees at a horse stable on the Kirkwood campus found the body of Dykes the morning of April 8 when they went to exercise the horses, according to a police report.

Dykes was last seen alive at 7 p.m. April 7, reports said, and his body was found about 8 a.m. April 8.

The victim hanged himself after throwing a rope over a beam inside the stable, where he had been living for about 2 weeks, authorities said. Cedar Rapids police also found a suicide note at the scene police reports said.

The son of Dick and Donna Dye Dykes, he was born at Unionville, MO Feb. 2, 1965.

He is survived by his father, Mechanicsville, his mother, living in Colorado; a sister, Shannon, Mechanicsville; his paternal grandmother and his maternal grandparents.
