Funeral services for Bert Berkenpas, 70, Downey, were held at the Downey Baptist church, March 3, with burial in the Downey cemetery. Mr. Berkenpas died at his home March 1, following a long illness.

The son of Sydney and Kirke Vis Berkenpas, he was born at Pipestone, Minn., Sept. 7, 1905. He was married to Cornelia Scholten at Nashua, Aug. 7, 1947. He was employed as a well driller most of his life.

He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the West Branch American Legion.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Adrianne) Hakes, Iowa City; a son, Robert, Downey; 2 sisters, Mrs. Gerturde Vandenberg, Volga, S.D., and Mrs. Ann DeZeeuw, Holland, Minn.; a brother, William, Holland, Minn.; and one grandson.
