Funeral services for Herman G. Ahrens, 85, retired farmer and former Tipton businessman, were held at the Dye funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 21 with the Rev. Donald Kehrli officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Pallbearers were Walter Seebeck, Siegfried Petersen, Wilbur Rorick, Harry Heisch, Howard Murrision and Sylvan Wenndt.

Mr. Ahrens died Jan. 18 after suffering a heart attack while shopping in Tipton.

The son of Henry and Amelia Ehurke Ahrens, he was born 3 miles south of Bennett Sept. 19, 1890 and received his education in the rural schools of Cedar county. He was married to Anna Sophe Boettcher at Davenport Nov. 16, 1911.

He farmed near Bennett for many years, retiring in 1959 and moving to Tipton. He operated a small business in Tipton for some time.

He is survived by 3 sons, Milo, Muscatine; Wayne, Tipton and Warren, Davenport; 2 brothers Arnold, Davenport and Rudolf, Wheatly, Ontario, Canada; 2 sisters, Emma Schnack of California and Mrs. John L. (Elsie) Koeler, Davenport, 8 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
