Funeral services for Hazel Barnes, 88, West Branch, former clerk of the Cedar county district court, were held at West Branch, Dec. 1 with the Rev. Max Paige officiating. Burial was in the West Branch cemetery.

She died at West Branch, Nov. 27, following a sudden illness.

The daughter of Joseph and Lou Ella Kerr Barnes, she was born at Springdale, April 17, 1887 and was employed for many years as a telephone operator in West Branch. She was clerk of the district court from Nov. 1, 1939 to Dec. 31, 1940, replacing Fred Weibel and being followed in office by J. C. Coonrod.

She was later employed at Whetstone's Drug Store in Iowa City until she retired.

She was a member of the Methodist church in West Branch and a 50-year member of the Rebekah lodge.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers and a sister.
