Funeral services for James Russel Laing, 67, were held at the Sheets and Son funeral home, May 27, with the Rev. Michael Thompson officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Pallbearers were James Wethington, Vernon Lamp, Harold Hass, Donald Reeder, Herbert Jennings and Donald Kallenberger. Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Spencer and Neil Carstensen were in charge of flowers.

Mrs. Laing died at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, May 23, following a brief illness.

The son of James R. and Lilly L. (Marker) Laing, he was born near Tipton, Nov. 26, 1907 and received his education in the rural schools of Cedar county and the Tipton school.

He was married to Margery Albaugh at Rock Island, Ill., in 1935. A retired farmer and truck driver, he spent his life in the Tipton area. He was a member of the Moose lodge.

He is survived by his wife, 2 grandsons, 3 brothers, Earl, West Branch; Harold and Mearl, Tipton; a sister, Mrs. Mary Schroeder, Tipton and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, 5 brothers and a sister.
