Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth M. Mortensen, 72, were held at St. Mary church, Tipton, May 3, with the Rev. George Snell officiating. Burial was in Oakdale cemetery, Wilton.

Pallbearers were Mearl and Howard Jennings, Raymond Rubenstein, Harold Jonas, Harold Ovesen and Peter Beck. Mary Lou Jedlicka was organist.

Mrs. Mortensen died at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, May 1 following an extended illness.

The daughter of Nels C. and Larsena Ovesen Christiansen, she was born at Wilton, May 7, 1902, and graduated from the Wilton high school in 1919. She graduated from Augustana school of nursing in 1940 and attended Loyola University, Chicago, Ill.

She was a registered nurse, serving in the Army Nursing corps from 1943 to 1948 with the rank of major. She served as chief operating room nurse during World War II. She was a member of Gerey Whalen post of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was married to Martin Mortensen at Wilton in 1922.

She had been a Tipton resident for 8 years and had been living at the Solon nursing home for 8 months.

She was a member of St. Mary church.

She is survived by 2 sisters, Mrs. Bernice Jennings, Tipton; Mrs. Esther Reynolds, San Diego, Calif.; 2 brothers, Norman Christiansen, Pocatello, Idaho and Harvey, Coralville, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband and 2 brothers.
