Last rites for Harry Thiering, 83, were held at the Sheets and Son funeral home, March 29, with the Rev. O. J. Ferguson officiating. Burial was in Inland cemetery near Bennett.

Pallbearers were Norman and Harry Rekemeyer, Gene Boettcher, Harold and Victor Wulf and Harlan Rixe. Mrs. Sylvia Gould was organist and Mr. and Mrs. Don Parker were vocalists.

Mr. Thiering died at the Hallmark nursing home, Mt. Vernon, March 29, following a brief illness.

The son of Herman and Katie Weick Thiering, he was born near Bennett Dec. 24, 1891 and was educated in the rural schools of Cedar county.

He was married to Alma Bauer at Davenport, Aug. 20, 1919.

A lifelong resident of the Bennett-Tipton area, he was a retired farmer. He served as a private in the 118th Infantry Regiment in France during World War I and was wounded in action.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Elmer (Dolores) Kunde, a son, Melvin, Tipton; 3 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. George (Meta) Boettcher, Tipton.

He was preceded in death by a son, a sister and 2 brothers.
