Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Lu Challis, 74, a former Tipton resident, were held at Davenport, March 18, with burial in the Tipton Masonic cemetery. The Davenport chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star conducted services at the funeral.

Pallbearers were Michael and David Lake, Mark Challis, Keith Whitlatch and Keith and Richard Fields.

Mrs. Challis died at Mercy hospital in Davenport March 15 after a 6 months illness. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer society.

The daughter of William and Myrta Wirick Werling, she was born at Tipton, Jan. 18, 1901. She graduated from Tipton high school in 1917 and attended Cornell college for 2 years.

She was married to Ralph Challis in 1921. They farmed near Tipton until 1932 when they moved to Davenport. He died in 1965.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Aaron (Virginia) Lake, Davenport; a son, Deane, Davenport; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Frieda Fields, Tipton and 3 brothers, Ralph Werling, Tipton; Forrest Werling, Neenah, Wis., and William Werling, Henderson, Ky.

She was preceded in death by her husband and 2 sisters.
