Funeral services for James Curtis Barnhart, 89, retired farmer and president of the West Branch State bank for many years, were held at United Methodist church, Springdale, with the Rev. Max E. Paige officiating. Burial was in the West Branch cemetery. Pallbearers were Gary Swartz, Mike Kessler and Dennis, Dan, David and Tom Barnhart.

Mr. Barnhart died at the Cookson home, Feb. 4, following a heart attack.

The son of Daniel L. and Fidelia Ellyson Barnhart, he was born at Audubon, March 20, 1885 and came to the West Branch area as a boy. He was married to Eva Phelps in 1910. She died in 1924. He was married to Ethel Fielman, June 14, 1927, who died in 1960.

He farmed in the Springdale area for many years. He served on the board of directors of the West Branch bank from 1934 until his death and was president of the board from 1966 to 1970 and chairman of the board from 1966 until his death. He also served as director of the school board.

Mr. Barnhart was a member of the Springdale United Methodist church and the Wapsinonoc Masonic lodge in West Branch.

He is survived by 3 sons, Harold, James and Donald, all of West Branch, 12 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a son.
