Funeral services for Mrs. Ora (Bess) Mayes, 87, were held at the Dye Funeral home Jan. 31 with Dr. Glenn Parrott officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemeteyr.

Pallbearers were Hermann Onken, Otis Geadelmann, Wayne Ahrens, Ernest Werling, Richard Moon and Max Crawford. Mrs. Kenneth Gould was organist.

Mrs. Mayes died at Anamosa Community hospital Jan. 28.

The daughter of Robert M. and Carrie Carbbe Peet, she was born on the family farm near Anamosa Sept. 5, 1887. She graduated from Anamosa high school and attended Cedar Rapids Business college.

She was married to Ora M. Mayes at her home June 17, 1916. The couple farmed in the Anamosa and Tipton area until their retirement. She was a member of the Presbyterian church.

She is survived by 2 sisters, Mrs. Harriett McCarthy, Anamosa and Mrs. Florence Dandridge, Marion; 2 brothers, James W. and Robert Melvin Peet, both of Anamosa and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and 3 sisters.
