Final rites for Bernard P. (Barney) Kotz, 68, were held at St. Mary church, Tipton, Dec. 3 with the Rev. George Snell officiating. Burial was in St. Mary cemetery. The rosary was recited at the church Dec. 2.

Pallbearers were Mark and Michael Hensch, Gerry Schulz, Wayne Holtz, Kirk Kotz and Wayne Garrison. Kathy Wood was organist.

Mr. Kotz died at St. Luke's hospital, Davenport, Dec. 1 following a brief illness.

The son of Henry and Kathryn Kappenman Kotz, he was born at Bridgewater, S.D., Aug. 17, 1906 and received his education in the rural schools of Lyman county, S.D. He was married to Mildred L. Garrison at Presho, S.D., Oct. 14, 1930.

A retired farmer, he had lived in Tipton since 1945. For a time he and his wife worked at the Annie Wittenmyer home in Davenport. He was a member of St. Mary church and a former member of the Tipton Moose lodge.

Mr. Kotz is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Howard (JoAnn) Hensch, Nevada; a son, Norman, Bennett, 9 grandchildren, 4 sisters, Mrs. Fred (Celia) Bechthold, Belgrade, Minn.; Mrs. Margaret Thompson, Davenport; Mrs. Ralph (Frances) Regenitter, Vivian, S.D.; Sister Mary Austin, Madison, S.D.; 3 brothers, Joseph, Belgrade, Minn.; Aloysious, Prophetstown, Ill., and Roy, Presho, S.D.

He was preceded in death by a sister, a brother and a son.
