19 September 1974 - The Tipton Conservative

Last rites for Abner A. (Ab) Petersen, 72, were held at the Sheets and Son funeral home Sept. 15 with the Rev. Fred Van Tatenhove officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery. Mrs. Sylvia Gould was organist.

Pallbearers were Ed Petitgout, Leo Carney, Harry Heisch, Glenn Conant, John Donohoe, and Lawrence Beaver. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Fields, Mr. and Mrs. James Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Zousel were in charge of flowers.

Mr. Petersen died at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, Sept. 12 following a short illness.

The son of Frank and Laura Goetsch Petersen, he was born near Atalissa March 21, 1902 and was educated in the rural schools of Cedar county. He was married to Bernice H. Paul at Rochester Dec. 24, 1925.

A retired farmer, he was a livestock buyer. He had lived in Tipton since 1945. He was a member of the Moose lodge.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Keith Fields, Tipton; a son, Dewey, Iowa City, 5 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Vera Mae Sharpless, West Liberty and Mrs. Edward (Elsie) Parizeck, Davenport and 2 brothers, Harry, Lisbon and Clarence, Tipton. He was preceded in death by a brother and sister.
