The death of Robert August Hartwig, 75, who lived in Cedar county near Lisbon, was ruled a suicide by Dr. Walter Kopsa, Cedar county medical examiner. Hartwig's death was due to shotgun wound in the chest.

His body was found Saturday after Dale Kruse, rural mail carrier, found a note in Hartwig's mailbox, instructing him to call the Cedar county sheriff.

Kruse entered the house and found Hartwig's body. He notified Lisbon police who called the sheriff.

There were no immediate survivors.

Final rites were held at St. John's Lutheran church, Lisbon, July 2.
