Last rites for Mrs. Bernice L. Treadwell, 84, were held at the Dye funeral home Feb. 15 with Dr. Glen Parrott officiating. Burial was at Strawberry Point. Mrs. Irma Crawford was organist. Mrs. Dorothy Bunker and Mrs. Max Crawford were in charge of flowers.

Mrs. Treadwell died at Cedar Manor Feb. 12, following a long illness.

The daughter of Herman and Mary King Opperman, she was born at Lancaster, Wis. June 16, 1889 and was educated in the Strawberry Point schools. She was married to Claire Treadwell May 16, 1915 at Strawberry Point.

They lived in Strawberry Point and Cedar Rapids, moving to Tipton in 1932 and operated the Jack Sprat Grocery on 5th street, north of the courthouse in the present location of Cook's Jewelry, until 1954.

She was a member of the United Methodist church and Circle No. 2 of United Methodist Women, a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star and the 19th Century club.

Mrs. Treadwell is survived by 2 cousins, Mrs. Louis (Meryl) Schmidt, Strawberry Point and Mrs. Jean Rahn, Billings, Mont. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dec. 15, 1954; a brother, James and a sister, Mrs. Everett (Anita) Chamberlain.
