September 20, 1973 - The Tipton Conservative

Last rites for Mrs. Genevieve Werling, 77, were held at St. Mary's Catholic church Sept. 9 with the Rev. George E. Snell officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery. The Dye funeral home was in charge.

Pallbearers were Joe and Leon Conway, Art Hicke, Wayne Miller, Folmer Jensen and Dick Leabhart. Mr. and Mrs. Don Wehde and Mr. and Mrs. George Lemkau were in charge of flowers.

Mrs. Werling died at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, Sept. 16, following a heart attack.

The daughter of James and Mary Murphy McSwiggin, she was born at Wilton Dec. 21, 1895. She was a graduate of Wilton high school and the Hershey hospital school of nursing at Muscatine.

She was married to Charles Henry Werling at Davenport Nov. 15, 1915. He died in 1925. A registered nurse, she lived in Wilton, Rochester, Arizona and Tipton. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church.

She is survived by 2 sons, Warren Wayne Werling, Cedar Rapids and Judge Max R. Werling, Tipton; a sister, Mrs. Emma Newton; 7 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband and 12 brothers and sisters.
