24 May 1973 - The Tipton Conservative

George Walter Marolf, 68, a former Wilton resident, died in a tractor accident near Delmar May 17. He was crushed to death while disking a cornfield on the farm of his son-in-law, Warren King.

The accident took place about 10 a.m. but his body was not found until 2 p.m. He was discovered crushed between the steering wheel of the overturned tractor and the hitch of the disk. It is believed that the tractor and disk became stuck and Marolf unhitched the disk from the tractor. When the tractor started it may have reared up and overturned on him.

Funeral services were held at Wilton May 21 with the Rev. Larry G. Willey officiating. Burial was in Oakdale cemetery.

The son of Edward F. and Mary Klein Marolf, he was born at Wilton Nov. 12, 1904 and lived in the Wilton area until moving to Delmar a few months ago.

He was married to Gladys Fern McQuillen at Wilton Dec. 19, 1923. He was a member of the Wilton Methodist church.

He is survived by 3 sons, Robert, Durant; George, Bellevue and Lyle, Moscow; a daughter, Mrs. Warren (Rita) King, Delmar; a brother, Carl, Iowa City, a sister, Ellen, Wilton and 18 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, 2 sons, a sister and 2 brothers.
