Funeral services for Emil Ferdinand (Barney) Hokenson, 78, were held at the Sheets and Son funeral home May 8, with the Rev. Thomas Wright officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Pallbearers were Robert, Milo, Jerry, Bill, Randy and Carl Agne. Honorary pallbearers were Art Baer, Carrol Dahlgren and Bill Dinse.

Mrs. Irma Crawford was organist and Peg Cline and Elva Jordan were in charge of flowers. The flag was presented at the grave by the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Hokenson died at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, May 4 following a short illness.

The son of John and Ellen Rundquist Hokenson, he was born at Big Rapids, Mich., Jan. 3, 1895 and received his education in the Big Rapids schools. He was married to Mame Charlet Agne Shippley at Tipton April 23, 1927.

A resident of Tipton since 1919, he was a Charter member of the Garey-Whalen post #123 of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars 2537. He saw service during World War I.

He is survived by a brother, Edwin, Downey, Calif.; 3 sisters, Mrs. Jack (Ida) Harrelson, Owosso, Mich; Mrs. Marie Ellifson, Big Rapids, Mich., and Mrs. Edward (Betty) Burnner, Detroit, Mich.; a step-daughter, Mrs. Don (Helene) Welty, a step-grandson, Billy Welty, Muscatine. He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter and 2 brothers.
