Last rites for Charles Thomas Phelps, 71, Sigourney, a native of West Branch, were held at Sigourney Feb. 6 with burial there. Mr. Phelps died at a Sigourney hospital Feb. 4.

Born Sept. 2, 1901, in West Branch, he moved to Sigourney in 1926 and was employed by the Triangle Auto Company. He purchased the firm in 1930 which became Phelps Auto Supply. He sold the business in 1967.

He was married to Dorothy Hoffman June 19, 1932, in Ainsworth. He was a member of the United Methodist church, Masonic lodge, Consistory at Cedar Rapids, Shrine at Davenport and of the Sigourney Chamber of Commerce.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mary Louise Schlesinger of Boulder, Colo.; a son, Thomas, Los Angeles; three grandsons; three sisters, Mrs. Alfred (Edith) Anderson and Mrs. L. C. (Mabel) Rummells, both of West Branch, and Lela Stoeckerof, Readington Beach, Fla., and a brother, Vernon, Dora, Mo.
