Funeral services for Mrs. Blanche Downing Young, who died June 4 at the Mt. Vernon Rest home after an illness of several years were June 6 at the Horner Funeral home, Mechanicsville. The Rev. Ralph Schenck officiated.

The daughter of Elmer B. and Ida C. Downing, she was born at Vinton June 17, 1887. She had lived at Vinton and Mechanicsville.

Surviving are 2 sons, Marshall and Harlan; a daughter, Velma M. Young; a grandson, Harlan W. Young and 2 great-grandsons, Brad W. and Robb C. Young, all of Mechanicsville; a brother, Loyd Downing, Vinton and a sister, Beatrice Harrison, Cedar Rapids, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Young, a son, DeVere B. Young, her parents, 4 sisters and a brother.

Pallbearers were Merle, Paul and Melvin Thimmes, Robert Davis, Ronald McNee and Carol Moir.
