18 June 1970 - The Tipton Conservative

Funeral services for Clyde E. Williams, former Mechanicsville councilman, were held June 14 at the Horner Funeral home with the Rev. James Nelson officiating. Burial was in Woodbridge cemetery at Buchanan.

Pallbearers were J. C. Butler, James Danly, John Mullan, Arthur Saum, Ronald Skow and Phil Sorensen.

Mr. Williams died June 11 at the VA hospital, Iowa City.

The son of Berten and Lenora Williams, he was born in Olmstead county, Minn. May 2, 1896 and attended country school in Minnesota.

He was married to Loma Lehman in Tipton Nov. 30, 1920. They farmed until 1948 when they moved to Mechanicsville. He had been a painter until recent years. He lived in the Tipton and West Branch area before moving to the Mechanicsville area in 1937.

A veteran of World War I he took part in the Argonne battle as a member of the 91st Infantry Division and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He served on the Mechanicsville council for 8 years.

He is survived by his wife, a son, Norman, Mechanicsville; a daughter, Mrs. Roger (Carolyn) Mitchell, Ridgeway, 9 grandchildren and 4 brothers, Allen, Mazeppa, Minn.; Earl and Herman, Kasson, Minn. and Neil, Northhome, Minn. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and a sister.
