Mrs. Arnold (Lillie) Mente, Wilton, former Tipton resident was fatally injured in a 2-car crash at the junction of highways 6 and 38 south of Wilton about 10 a.m. June 15.

Mrs. Mente, who received head injuries in the crash, died in Mercy hospital at noon, 2 hours after the collision.

Lynn Hart, Muscatine County deputy sheriff, said Mrs. Mente was driving south on Iowa 38 and apparently applied the brakes before reaching the stop sign at the highway junction.

The Mente car veered off the roadway to the right and back onto the highway into the path of an auto operated by Joseph Belche, 41, Muscatine, according to authorities.

Belche, who was traveling north of Iowa 38, was not injured. His son, Joseph Jr., a passenger in the car, also escaped injury.

Funeral services for Mrs. Arnold (Lillie) Mente, 64, of 915 Cypress St., Wilton, will be held today (June 18). The Rev. Homer Perry will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's cemetery, Clarence.

Born March 13, 1906 at Tipton, she was a daughter of August and Emma Butterbrodt Kammyer. She married Arnold Mente Dec. 28, 1928 at Clarence. The couple had resided 16 years at Wilton having formerly lived at Tipton.

Mrs. Mente was a member of the United Church of Christ.

Survivors are her husband, Arnold; a son, James Mente of Tipton; a daughter, Teresa Mente, Rolling Meadows, Ill.; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Kammyer, Clarence; 4 sisters, Mrs. Ed (Gladys) Rohlfs, Plainview; Mrs. Kenneth (Norma) Hoffner, LaGrange, Ill.; Mrs. Wilfred (Hilda) Haselmeyer, State Center, and Mrs. Steve (Ina) Nugent, Tampa, Fla., and 2 grandchildren.
