Funeral services for Jesse Thorton Murphy, 67, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at the Sheets and Son funeral home. Burial will be in Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Mr. Murphy was formerly a partner in the Brown and Murphy Implement company in Tipton and a former chief of the fire department. He died at Cedar Manor Feb. 24.

Funeral services for Jesse Thorton Murphy, 67, were held at the Sheets and Son Funeral home Feb. 27, with the Rev. E. H. Lauer officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Pallbearers were Joe Conway, Lawrence Brown, Donald Mitchell, Floyd Rife, W. H. Thoeming and Herman Roberts. Mr. and Mrs. John Albaugh and Mr. and Mrs. Wilmar Williams were in charge of flowers. Mrs. Arnold Swan was organist.

Mr. Murphy died at St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids, Feb. 24, following a short illness.

The son of Clarence and Mary Jane Dutteverler Murphy, he was born at Lockridge Feb. 23, 1903 and was educated in the rural schools of Jefferson county.

He was married to Mary Esther Evers Oct. 29, 1938 at Nashua.

A Tipton resident since 1937, he was a former partner in the Brown and Murphy Implement company. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 11, AF&AM and the Iowa Fireman's association.

He was a member of the Tipton fire department from 1942 to 1959 and was assistant chief from 1945 to 1951 and chief from 1951 to 1956.

He is survived by 2 sons, Jerry and Jimmie, both of Tipton; 3 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Frank, Fairfield and Raymond, Lockridge; a sister, Mrs. Sherman (Etta) Bishop, Fairfield. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, 3 sisters and an infant daughter.
