Last rites for Bertha A. Pownall, 80, a native of Centerdale, were held at West Branch Dec. 26 with burial in the West Branch cemetery. Miss Pownall died at St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids Dec. 22. She was a former resident of Iowa City.

She was born March 20, 1889, at Centerdale, daughter of Walter and Catharine Harley Pownall. For many years she was director of religious education at St. Paul's and Trinity Methodist churches in Cedar Rapids. She retired in 1958.

She was a graduate of Iowa City high school and had attended Grinnell college.

Surviving are a brother, Fred Pownall, Iowa City and several nieces and nephews.
