18 December 1969 - The Tipton Conservative

Last rites for August William Eilers, 86, were held Dec. 13 at the Red Oak Presbyterian church with the Rev. Ralph Schenck officiating. Burial was in the Red Oak cemetery.

Pallbearers were Walter, Raymond and Mearl Eilers, Harold Eiler, Dale Miller and Forrest Willer Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Alvah Morphew and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stafford were in charge of flowers. Mrs. Don Hipple was vocalist and Mrs. Max Phelps, organist.

Mr. Eilers suffered a stroke while directing work at his farm and was taken to Mercy hospital, Iowa City where he died Dec. 11.

The son of Fred William and Alma Meiners Eilers, he was born in Echwarden, Germany Oct. 14, 1883 and came to the United States as a child. He was educated in the rural schools of Cedar county and the German Evangelical school at Lowden.

He was married to Martha Katherine Louise Penningroth at Red Oak June 16, 1910 and they farmed in the Red Oak-Tipton area for more than 60 years.

He was a member of the Red Oak Presbyterian church.

He is survived by his wife, 4 daughters, Mrs. Milo (Vera) Agne, Stanwood; Mrs. Robert (Bernice) Meinholdt and Mrs. Keith (Ruth Eleanor) Bell, both of Tipton and Mrs. LeRoy (Marie) Shaull, Davenport; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Anna Butterbrodt, Tipton.

He was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 5 brothers.
