18 December 1969 - The Tipton Conservative

Funeral services for Mervin (Pete) Baker, 87, were held Dec. 16 at the Sheets and Son funeral home with the Rev. Eugene Miller officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Pallbearers were Arnold Driscoll, Howard Parker, Donald Challis, Roy Tevis, William Brinkman and Leonard Voss. Mr. and Mrs. Lon LaRue were in charge of flowers. Mrs. Irma Crawford was organist.

Mr. Baker died at University hospitals, Iowa City, Dec. 14.

Mr. Baker was born in Harrisburg, Pa. He married Katherine Boettcher at Clarence Dec. 4, 1906.

Survivors include a son, Earl, Tipton; 5 daughters, Mrs. Edward Hipple, Moline; Mrs. Everette Miller and Ethel Park, both of Tipton; Violet Kelley, Moscow and Mrs. Melvin Baker, Mechanicsville; 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bixler, Waseca, Minn.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Clifford Babcock, Delavan, Minn. and Ethel Baker, Blue Earth, Minn.

Mr. Baker died on his way to University hospitals, Iowa City, Dec. 14. Death was due to pneumonia, following a short illness.

The son of Willis and Anna Bradley Baker, he was born near Harrisburg, Penn. March 26, 1882 and was educated in the rural schools of the area.

He was married to Katherine Boettcher at Clarence Dec. 4, 1905 and farmed in the Tipton area, moving to Tipton in 1952.

He is survived by a son, Earl, Tipton; 5 daughters, Mrs. Everett (Gladys) Miller and Mrs. Ethel Park, both of Tipton; Mrs. Edward (Pearl) Hipple, Moline, Ill.; Mrs. Violet Kelly, Moscow and Mrs. Melvin (Jean) Baker, Mechanicsville; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bixler Baker, Waseca, Minn. and 2 sisters, Mrs. Clifford (Mary) Babcock, Delavan, Minn. and Ethel Baker, Blue Earth, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his wife, 7 brothers, 5 sisters and a son.
