SP/5 Gary Hein 1948-1969

11 December 1969 - The Tipton Conservative

SP/5 Gary Hein, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hein, Bennett, died of injuries received in Vietnam Dec. 6. His parents were notified of his death Dec. 9.

He was born at Davenport April 16, 1948 and spent his life in the Bennett-Tipton area before entering service in April, 1968.

SP/5 Hein was serving with the 4th Division in Vietnam as a clerk in the division's 4th Supply and Transport battalion near Pleiku. He received his basic training at Fort Bliss, Tex. and was stationed at Fort Sheridan, Ill., before going overseas in May, 1968.

He is survived by his parents, a brother, Dale, who graduated from the Bennett school in 1968, 2 sisters, Sandy, who is a senior in the Bennett school and Twyla, who is in kindergarten at Bennett.

SP/5 Gary Hein, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hein, Bennett, died of injuries in Vietnam Dec. 6. His parents were notified of his death Dec. 9.

Military rites for SP/5 Gary L. Hein were held Dec. 15 at St. Paul's Lutheran church with the Rev. Paul Mueller officiating. Burial was in Inland cemetery, with a military salute at the graveside. The Dye funeral home was in charge.

Pallbearers were Harley Steinke, Walter W. Seebeck, George P. Kelley, Alex Frost, Tom Wegener and Paul Wright. Herbert Waech was organist. Mrs. Kenneth Jordan, Mrs. Leonard Schwitzer and Mrs. Ernie Cawiezell were in charge of flowers.
