Funeral services for Gustave (Gus) Stakey, 66, were held at the Sheets and Son Funeral home Dec. 1, with the Rev. E. H. Lauer officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Pallbearers were Norman Kotz, Lester Thien, Donald Witte, John King, Virgil Wegener and Kenneth Ehlers. Mrs. Max Phelps was organist and Mr. and Mrs. Don Parker were vocalists. Mr. and Mrs. Reldo Schnack and Mrs. Virgil Wegener were in charge of flowers.

Mr. Stakey died at the University of Iowa Hospitals Burn Center Nov. 28 as the result of burns received in a cornpicker fire at the Lester Thien farm 3 miles south of Tipton. He was severely burned over the lower half of his body.

The son of August and Pauline Balke Stakey, he was born at New Britian, Conn., March 17, 1903 and was educated in the rural New Britian schools. He was married to Anna M. Butterbrodt at New Britian July 17, 1928. A farmer, he had lived in the Tipton area since 1923. He was a member of the Moose lodge.

He is survived by his wife, 2 daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Betty) Mente, Tipton and Mrs. Ben (Janice) Galloway, Cedar Rapids; 9 grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Pauline Wagner, New Britian, Conn.; 4 sisters and a brother.
