Last rites for John Thompson, 86, were held at the Barker Funeral home in West Branch Oct. 7, with burial in the Masonic cemetery.

Mr. Thompson died at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, Oct. 4, following a long illness.

Mr. Thompson was born May 24, 1883, in Cedar county, the son of Jens and Marie Anderson Thompson. He and Linna Mae Pennock were married Sept. 4, 1907, at West Branch.

In early life, he operated a grocery and feed business at West Branch. More recently, he and his wife were employed as caretakers of the Hoover Birthplace.

Mr. Thompson was a member of the West Branch United Methodist church, the Wapsinonoc Masonic lodge, West Branch, and Cedar Rapids Consistory and the Kaaba Shrine at Davenport.

Surviving are his widow; a son, John E. Thompson, Iowa City; 2 sisters, Mrs. Minnie Siler, West Branch, and Mrs. Anna Bundy, Pasadena, Calif.; 2 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Two sisters and a brother died earlier.
