Mrs. Roland (Violet) Burnett, 53, Tipton and her grandson, Carl Leland Searan, 7 months, were killed in a car-truck crash near Marshalltown at 11 a.m. Oct. 1.

Seriously injured in the crash is Mrs. Thomas (Aletta Jane) Searan and 2 other children, Thomas Layton, 2 and Ronald Lee, 3. They are in University hospitals, Iowa City. Mrs. Searan has fractures and internal injuries. All were severly cut.

The accident occurred approximately 4 miles west of Marshalltown on Highway 30. The car in which Mrs. Burnett, Mrs. Searan and the 3 other children were riding was struck by a truck driven by Howard Rush Jr., 31, Mount View, Mo., which was reported to have pulled out to pass another vehicle. Rush was not hurt.

Mr. Searan was in a truck with the couples other child Sherly Lynn. They were moving from their home near Springville to Minnesota when the crash took place.

Last rites for Mrs. Burnett were held at the Dye funeral home Oct. 4 with the Rev. Loyd Osborn officiating. Mrs. Osborn was vocalist and Mrs. Egerton Nix was organist. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Pallbearers were Virgil, David and Edward Griffis, Earl Anderson, Warren Ritz and Wayne Sissel.

Violet Mildred, daughter of Perry and Mable Storm Simpson, was born at Russell Feb. 20, 1914 and received her education in the schools of Kellogg. She was married to Roland Lankford Burnett in Newton July 30, 1931.

The couple lived in Kellogg until 1932 when they moved to Macon, Mo. where they lived until 1948. They were residents of West Liberty for a year and then moved to Tipton in 1949.

Mrs. Burnett was a member of the Foursquare Gospel church.

She is survived by her husband, 4 sons, David Lee, Cedar Rapids; James Russell, Lisbon; Jack Lankford and Daniel Paul, all of Cedar Rapids; 3 daughters, Mrs. Florence Louise Walters, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Thomas (Aletta Jane) Searan, Springville and Grace Evonne Burnett, Tipton; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Also 3 brothers, George Simpson, Tama; Thurman Simpson, Des Moines and Herman Simpson, Joplin, Mo., and 3 sisters, Mrs. Lloyd (Opal) Cadman, Colfax. Mrs. Sam Wright, Chariton and Mrs. James (Viva) Musgrove, Seattle, Wash.

She was preceded in death by a son, a brother and a grandson.
