Last rites for John L. Bashor, 81, were held at Downey Sept. 12, with burial in the Downey cemetery. Mr. Bashor died at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, Sept. 9.

Mr. Bashor was born at Limestone, Tenn., Feb. 5, 1888 and spent much of his life in the Downey area.

He married Bertha Weinard, May 14, 1924 at Downey. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of Chauncey American Legion, West Branch.

Mr. Bashor had operated a grocery store for many years at Downey and until retiring had been employed by Pioneer Seed Co.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bertha Bashor; a daughter, Mrs. George (Betty) Thompson, Minneapolis, Minn.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Loretta Luckstad, Olin, and Mrs. Willie Woods, Johnson City, Tenn. and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
