18 September 1969 - The Tipton Conservative

Air Force T/SGT Henry F. Plate, 36, son of Mrs. Lucy Plate, Bennett, died at Tachikawa air base hospital Sept. 12.

T/SGT Plate became ill while stationed at MacTan air force base in the Philippines. He was first taken to Clark air force base hospital in the Philippines and later transferred to Tachikawa air base hospital.

He had been hospitalized for 8 weeks. He was enroute to a hospital in the United States when his condition became critical and he was taken to Japan.

SGT Plate is a veteran of 17 years service in the air force.

He is surivved by his wife, the former Joanne Helmold of Bennett; 2 sons, Daniel and William, Bennett; his mother, Mrs. Lucy Plate, Bennett and a brother Chief Warrant Officer, Wilmer A. Plate, Huntington Beach, Calif.

The family has requested that any memorials made in lieu of flowers be given to Peace church, Bennett, or to Chaplain Stork's Vietnam orphanage.

Funeral services for T/SGT Henry F. Plate, 36, were held at Peace United Church of Christ, Bennett, Sept. 19. The Rev. Robert Ahrendt, Covington, Ohio, officiated.

Pallbearers were Raymond Conrad, Elmer Meyer, Wilbert Pauls, Maynard Helmold, Henry Klatt and Orville Boedeker. Mrs. Roy Wilson and Mrs. Howard Stuhr were in charge of flowers. Music was by the Muhs brothers quartet, with Mrs. Ernest Riedesel as organist.

Burial was in Inland cemetery with military rites by the Rixe-Lausen Post of the American Legion and Amvets Post No. 21, Bennett.

SGT Plate died at Tachikawa air force base, Japan, following 8 weeks of illness. He had been hospitalized at Clark air force base in the Philippines. He had been stationed at Mac Tan air base in the Philippines since February, 1969.

He was married to Joanne Helmold at Chanute air force base, Ill., May 19, 1953.

He is survived by his wife, 2 sons, Daniel and William, and his mother, Mrs. Lacy Plate, all of Bennett; a brother, Warrant Officer Wilmer A. Plate, Huntington Beach, Calif. He was preceded in death by his father, a brother and a sister.
