11 September 1969 - The Tipton Conservative

Funeral services for Thomas John Barnes, 56, were held at the Sheets and Son Funeral home Sept. 8 with the Rev. Eugene Miller officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Pallbearers were Robert, James and Jack Reeve, Forrest Fitch, Arthur Albaugh and Russell Miller. Mr. and Mrs. Max Nebergall were in charge of flowers. Mrs. Irma Crawford was organist.

Mr. Barnes died at University hospitals, Iowa City, Sept. 4 following an extended illness.

The son of William E. and Nancy Comstock Barnes, he was born in Tipton June 29, 1913. He graduated from the Tipton high school in 1932.

Mr. Barnes was married to Marjorie Reeve Nov. 24, 1935.

A lifetime resident of the Tipton area, he worked as a custodian. He was a member of the Davenport Moose lodge.

He is survived by his wife, 2 daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Sandra) Skinner, Cedar Rapids; Karen, Marysville, Penn.; 4 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Norman (Viola) Curtis, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Leslie (Helen) Achey, Jacksonville, Fla.; 4 brothers, Frank, Salt Lake City, Utah; Clarence, Stanwood; Earl, Cedar Rapids and James, Hartford, Conn.

He was preceded in death by 3 brothers.
