Last rites for Max Herman Schroeder, 71, retired Tipton area farmer, will be held at 1:30 p.m. today (May 22) at the Sheets and Son funeral home with burial in the Red Oak cemetery.

The Rev. James Lusher officiated at the services. George Thordsen was vocalist and Mrs. Max Phelps organist. Pallbearers were Harold Conley, Vernon Werling, Clifford Dickey, Ray Isabel, Walter Behrens and Mearl Christian. Mrs. Elsie Stiff, Mrs. Ray Isabel and Mrs. Leonard Eichelberger were in charge of flowers.

Mr. Schroeder died May 19 at Cedar Manor following an extended illness.

The son of Emil and Augusta Krueger Schroeder, he was born Jan. 23, 1989, at Blue Grass and attended the rural schools of Muscatine county. He was married to Mary Margaret Laing at Cedar Rapids July 17, 1937.

He farmed for 25 years in the Rochester community before retiring 5 years ago.

He is survived by his wife, a son, Donald, Atalissa; a daughter, Mrs. Daisy Satterfield, Cedar Rapids; 6 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Otto, Wilton; Fred, Tipton and George, Muscatine and 2 sisters, Mrs. Adolph (Hulda) Martz, Muscatine and Edith, Wilton.

He was preceded in death by 3 sisters.
