October 17, 1968 - The Tipton Conservative

Last rites for Mrs. William V. Werling, 81, Tipton, were held at the First Methodist church Oct. 14. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Mrs. Werling died at Cedar Manor Nursing home Oct. 11.

The services were conducted by the Rev. Eugene Miller. Mr. and Mrs. Don Parker were vocalists and Mrs. Irma Crawford organist. Pallbearers were 6 grandsons, Marlon, Kenneth, William, Dennis and Ronald Werling and Allan Rice. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Laucamp were in charge of flowers.

The Rebekah lodge conducted services after the church services at the Methodist church.

The daughter of John and Mary Smith Walters, she was born Aug. 24, 1887 at Tipton and attended the rural schools of the county. She was married to William V. Werling Dec. 12, 1907 at Tipton.

A lifetime resident of Tipton she was a member of First Methodist church, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Rebekah lodge, Women of the Moose, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Mt. Zion Guild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandson and a great-grandson.

Mrs. Werling is survived by 5 sons, Donald H., Des Moines; Alvin, Wilton; Ted, Davenport; Paul, Tipton, and Beryl, Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Mrs. George Rice, Tipton; 2 brothers, Henry Walters, Tipton, and Leonard Walters, Waterloo; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
