July 18, 1968 - The Tipton Conservative

Final rites for Mrs. Mary Eloise Michels, 72, were held July 12 at the Sheets and Son funeral home with the Rev. E. H. Lauer officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Pallbearers were William Sweeney, Russell Willer, Eugene Hancock, L. E. Aker, Wayne Miller and Robert DeKock. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stafford and Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Werling were in charge of flowers. Mrs. Arnold Swan was organist.

Mrs. Michels died at Mercy hospital, Davenport, July 9 as the result of injuries received in a 2-car crash at Davenport July 6.

The daughter of the Rev. Robert L. and Ann Eleanor Weir Welch, she was born at Oneonta, N.Y., May 2, 1896 and graduated from high school in Minden, Nebr. and Iowa State Teachers college, Cedar Falls.

She taught kindergarten in Anamosa, Cedar Rapids and Washington for many years. She was married to Atty. T. A. Michels June 28, 1960 at Normal, Ill. He died in May 1962.

Mrs. Michels had been a resident of Tipton for 8 years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the P.,E.O., the Tipton Study club and Mary circle of the United Church of Christ.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ and a life member of the Iowa Education association.

She is survived by 2 sisters, Elizabeth and Eleanor Weir Welch, both of Normal, Ill.
