Final rites for Mrs. Carl Kern, 57, Stanwood, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 16 at the Sheets and Son funeral home with the Rev. Vernon Stamp officiating. Burial was in the Shawver cemetery at Cedar Bluff.

Pallbearers were Lew Stahle, Norman King, Larry Hartig, Raymond Cruse and Ray Mitchell. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Rhoads Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hipple were in charge of flowers. Mrs. T. J. Campbell was organist.

Mrs. Kern died July 13 at Cedar Manor in Tipton following a short illness.

Margaret Almena, daughter of Frank G. and Dora D. Wentzel Johnson, was born at St. David, Ill. June 7, 1911 and was educated in the Mechanicsville schools and Cedar Rapids Business college.

She was married to Carl Franklin Kern at Cedar Rapids March 1, 1934. The couple farmed in the Red Oak area until 1960 when they retired and moved to Stanwood.

Mrs. Kern was a member of the congregation of Jehovah's Witness at Tipton.

She is survived by her husband and a half brother, Gordon F. Johnson, Western Springs, Ill.
