18 April 1968 - The Tipton Conservative

CPL Richard Murray, 21, son of Mrs. Floyd (Betty) Aegerter, West Branch, and LaMoyne Murray, North Liberty, was killed in action in Vietnam April 10. He was to have been returning to the United States for discharge within a few days.

He was moving ammunition when an explosion took place, killing 5 or 6 Marines.

Funeral services for CPL Murray will be held in Tipton, but the time has not been set, pending the return of his body. Marines stationed in Davenport will have charge of the military services.

CPL Murray was serving his second tour of duty in Vietnam. He had been in Vietnam since late in June, 1967 on his latest overseas duty.

He attended the Tipton Community schools.

He is survived by his mother and father, 7 sisters, Mrs. William (Nancy) Donohoe, Mechanicsville; Mrs. H. G. (Suzanne) Case, Elkton, Ky.; and Mrs. David (Janice) Wurr, Tipton and Judy, Vicki, Dawn and Denise, at home and a brother, Charles, North Liberty.

Funeral services are pending at the Sheets and Son Funeral home in Tipton. It is expected that the body will arrive in about 2 weeks.

Last rites for CPL Richard Murray, 21, will be held at First Methodist church at 1:30 p.m. April 27, with the Rev. Eugene Miller officiating.

Burial will be in the West Branch cemetery where full military rites will be held.

Friends may call at the Sheets and Son funeral home after 7:30 p.m. today (Thursday).

Marine Corporal Murray, son of LeMoyne Charles Murray, North Liberty, and Mrs. Floyd (Betty May Ford) Aegerter, West Branch, will killed in action in Vietnam April 10.

He was born in Muscatine Aug. 7, 1946 and had spent most of his life in the Tipton area. He attended Tipton high school.

He is survived by his mother and father, 7 sisters, Mrs. William (Nancy) Donohoe, Mechanicsville; Mrs. H. G. (Suzanne) Case, Elkton, Ky.; and Mrs. David (Janice) Wurr, Tipton and Judy, Vicki, Dawn and Denise, at home and a brother, Charles North Liberty.

He is also survived by 2 step sisters, Carol, at home and Mrs. John (Marguerite) Dorton, Muscatine and a step-brother, Larry, in the navy at Norfolk, Va.
